Overview
Think of the dimensions of life as a four legged stool. The legs represent the Physical, Intellectual, Emotional and Spiritual sides. The bottom rung can be understood as the social and vocational links which interconnect and interact with all four of the legs. The strength of the stool is determined by how well you develop in each of these areas. It will establish whether you live a healthy, balanced life or an unhealthy, sometimes dysfunctional life.
When we are born all the dimensions of our lives are underdeveloped (think of the legs of the stool as being the size of toothpicks). One of the main roles of parents is to provide security and protection because if any of life's weight were to be put on the stool too early it would crumble. As we grow and develop the legs become stronger and the less protection we require.
For most of us, the legs did not develop in a balanced way and we live unbalanced. Of the four individual areas, the physical (naturally) and the intellectual (education system) develop and mature (those legs of the stool get stronger) with time. The emotional and spiritual tend to be under developed (those legs of the stool remain weak). When the weight of the world sits on our stool, those under-developed legs crumble, and we fall off, and we tend to make unhealthy choices or worse, lead a dysfunctional life.
Our coaching is designed to grow those underdeveloped areas so you can achieve balance in your life.

- Physically, our bodies develop on their own. As a person matures, they begin to consider things like exercise, nutrition, etc.
- Intellectually, early development of our mind occurs within the educational system, usually supplemented by parents. As we grow, we typically acquire knowledge outside the educational system. One of the indicators here is are you a life-long learner, do you have a desire to continually grow and learn?
- Emotionally, we become aware of our feelings as we grow. Unfortunately, most of us are not taught how to live emotionally healthy lives. Some are taught not to show their vulnerable feelings (crying), or “bad” feelings (anger). Feelings are not morally good or bad, they are only reactions to what we are experiencing at the moment. However, feelings can drive behavior (choices) which may have moral consequences.
-
Spiritually,
we tend to develop slower in this area.
An infant can easily identify when they are hungry, but further growth
is required to ponder things like, does God exist, what is the purpose of my
life, etc. Most of us get exposure to
the spiritual dimension through organized religion, but can also be supplemented by
parents, peer groups and individual reading.
